Fix Brightness Control Not Working in Windows 11 After Update
To fix broken brightness controls in Windows 11 after an update, your display driver is usually the culprit. The fastest fix is to reinstall your graphics driver via Device Manager.
Step 1: Reinstall the Display Driver :
Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager. Expand the Display adapters section.Right-click your graphics card (e.g., Intel, NVIDIA, or AMD) and choose Uninstall device.
Check the box that says “Attempt to remove the driver for this device” and click Uninstall.Restart your PC.
Windows will automatically reinstall a fresh, working driver upon booting.
Step 2: Restart the Monitor Driver
If the display adapter didn’t fix it, your monitor driver might be glitched:
Open Device Manager again and expand Monitors.
Right-click your monitor (usually named “Generic PnP Monitor”) and select Disable device.
Right-click it again and choose Enable device.
Step 3: Check Power Options
Sometimes a Windows update modifies your display power plans, disabling brightness features:
Open the Start Menu, type Control Panel, and open it.
Go to Hardware and Sound — Power Options.
Click Change plan settings next to your active plan, then Change advanced power settings.
Expand the Display section and make sure Adaptive Brightness is set to Off.
Step 4: Run a System File Check
Corrupted system files can disrupt your display settings.
Press the Windows Key, type cmd, and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open it as Administrator.
Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Let the scan finish, close the window, and restart your PC.
